Investing Time with Kids.

Capturing kiddos is a specialty in itself. You’ve probably already know that getting that portrait with their eyes all aglow is almost impossible at times. One of my biggest strengths is working with kids. I like trying to work with their personalities. Some children are very reserved while others are HUGE personalities that can barely be contained. It is almost a puzzle to figure out each child’s needs for the photo session. I have no problem crawling around in the sand, laying on my tummy to get that low angle or chasing the young ones around while I hold my big ol’ camera trying to get that millisecond of a smile. I also speak softly with the reserved personalities or quietly play to help ease them into the photo portion. It is always a joy to see what a little bit of time and understanding can bring out of a child during a session. As a parent, you shouldn’t have to stress and worry about the photographer working with your kids. You want to be able to sit back, watch, and laugh along with them. With Chelsea V Photography, you will get to enjoy a stress-free session with full directions on posing, capturing the moments in between, and a smooth process with all the details.

What to Expect.

People don’t hire photographers just for their gear. When you hire a professional photographer, you’re asking for their insight and experience. During the session, the kiddos will receive full guidance and help with little details like hair placement. With kids sessions, I love to be adaptable. Some kids respond well to doing posed photos while others need space to do their own thing with candid/lifestyle sets. I like to try both options with them. For the lifestyle posing, we get to play and have fun during the photo shoot. Most of the professional “candid” photos are actually fully posed and instructed! That is why it is so hard to get a photo like that on your own. That doesn’t mean stiff or forced smiles. It will mean I do some work with your kids to make them laugh or show off their personalities. Sometimes the serious photos are even more precious than laughing smiles. Once we finish the session, I send you a gallery online with stylized adjustments and light editing. You pick your final images. In the final photos, I will do an additional clean up (retouch) and deliver them in high resolution digital files. Outdoor Sessions.

San Diego visitors and residents love sessions at the beach! Other popular locations are Balboa Park, Midland Poway Railroad and Julian. Clients enjoy finding new locations like Rancho Penasquitos trails, parks with playgrounds, or seeing our beautiful cliffs and bluffs at places in Torrey Pines. Either way, Chelsea V Photography offers a variety of locations within and near San Diego. If you’re not sure where to start, just give a general idea (beach or park) and Chelsea will do give suggestions, research an area, or try to find a new spot for you.

Outdoor sessions are highly recommended near sunset. Morning and other times available depending on the location. Keep your kiddos’ nap and bedtime schedules in mind. Chelsea carefully plans your session around lighting and tides. If you know you want a Saturday sunset sessions, contact as soon as possible especially during holidays.

Studio Sessions.

Air conditioning (or heater), no wind, no rain and a dressing room!? Wow, you guessed it. The studio is very popular for fine art portraits in a controlled environment. With solid color backgrounds and printed options, the studio allows for a cleaner look. You won’t have to worry about weather, wind, or finding a bathroom. More times are available, so you can work around schedules like kiddos’ bedtimes. Studio sessions are popular for families that get yearly portraits. During the holiday season, Christmas themed sessions are available in studio or outdoors. Kids themed sessions with props are available in studio as well. Studio sessions are available throughout the day Wednesday-Saturday. Saturdays book quickly during peak holidays and summer. Book ahead of time to secure your spot.

Themed Sets, Props and Cake Smash.

Looking for something fun, detailed, and creative? Chelsea V Photography offers themed sets and cake smash sessions for kids. Chelsea can create a set from your ideas, color palettes, or child’s favorite things. Most people don’t know where to start when creating a set or theme, so Chelsea is happy to help get you started. If you’re an artistic person with ideas, Chelsea will figure out the best way to bring your ideas to life. You can set up a zoom meeting to start planning before you book.
